Languishing Staff – Ways to set your path to Flourishing again
Not flourishing during 2021?

Some have described one feeling during the pandemic as languishing. Rather than burnout from overwork or full-blown depression through lack of hope. Adam Grant identified the “blah you’re feeling” as a sense of stagnation and emptiness and has termed this as languishing.

So your plans have been cancelled and you find yourself working from home or stepping out with your mask, researchers suggest that flow where we achieve a state of absorption in a meaningful challenge or momentary bond.

Two ways to increase absorption is:
1. Set aside uninterrupted time. Some workplaces have Tuesday and Thursday until 12 noon for uninterrupted work time and found that engineers are more productive when there is set time for thinking work. This provides staff with a sense of progress

2. Focus on a small goal. Take time to break down your work and personal life into more manageable parts. This gives you a clearer sense of what you are doing and clarifies goals for the day. Then working towards then can help give this sense of overcoming a just manageable difficulty – an interesting project, a meaningful conversation.
